About Us

The EU Diplomatic Spouses Circle was founded by Paul and Igli in Beijing, China.

Recognizing the need for a more supportive social environment for EU Delegation spouses and partners, Paul and Igli came together to create a small, informal community.

As interest grew among spouses and partners from other EU Member States, the community expanded to include participants from all EU Member States, as well as from the embassies of Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The growth was driven by shared enthusiasm and voluntary collaboration. The group became known as the EU Diplomatic Spouses Circle, with the name “Circle” chosen to symbolize inclusivity, unity, and mutual support, as well as to reflect the values represented by the European Union.

From the early days, Mia and Jenny joined Paul and Igli, dedicating their time and energy to support the community, along with other members who contributed to creating a newcomers’ guide to China and helping out with events.

Our community has grown organically, hosting a variety of successful social and professional events, all coordinated by volunteers. The EU Diplomatic Spouses Circle is a voluntary, informal network that does not hold legal entity status. The community operates informally, with no legal, financial, or contractual obligations for its members or organizers.

We are a collaborative, informal community committed to creating an environment of respect, inclusivity, and empowerment. Together, we aim to positively impact the lives of EU diplomatic spouses and partners by fostering opportunities to connect, share, and grow within our unique international community.
